Appointments:

Guy R. Colson has been selected for inclusion in the 2010 edition of "The Best Lawyers in America" in the area of Insurance Law.

Casey Stansbury has been elected as the first attorney member of the Bluegrass Claims Association.

Guy R. Colson has been chosen by the Fayette County Bar Association as the recipient of the 2009 Outstanding Citizen Lawyer award. This award is given each year to a well-respected attorney who provides outstanding legal service for his clients and is also involved in and providing service to his community.

Jana Smoot White has joined Altrusa International of Lexington, Kentucky.

Jana Smoot White has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Fayette County Bar Association.

John E. Hinkel, Jr. has been asked to join the Board of Trustees of Lexington Catholic High School beginning July 1, 2009.

Jana Smoot White has been asked to serve on the National Board of the Children's Hemiplegia and Stroke Association as secretary.

Paralegal Mary Hackworth has been appointed Job Bank Chair and Paralegals Tammy Penn and Brittney Wilson have been appointed CLE Co-Chairs of the Greater Lexington Paralegal Association's 2009 Board.

Susan S. Kennedy has been asked to serve on the board of directors of the Woodford Humane Society.

Taft A. McKinstry, Guy R. Colson and Robert S. Ryan have been selected by their peers for inclusion in the 2009 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Colson was named for his work in Insurance Law, while Ms. McKinstry and Mr. Ryan were named for their work in Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights Law. This publication is regarded as the definitive guide to legal excellence in the United States.

Robert S. Ryan has been elected Rotary International's District Governor for the Eastern District of Kentucky for the 2010-2011 service year. As District Governor, Mr. Ryan will lead 45 Rotary clubs in serving their community and those in need throughout the world.

Tiffany Lauderdale Phillips has been appointed to the Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities Public Relations Committee for 2008-2009.

Kim Bullock, Fowler's Business Manager, has been elected Chair-Elect of the Lexington Professional Women's Forum. Ms. Bullock's term as Chair will begin in August of 2009.

Taft A. McKinstry has been elected Chair-Elect of the Bankruptcy Section of the Kentucky Bar Association. Ms. McKinstry's term as Chair will begin at the conclusion of the section's meeting at next year's KBA Convention.

John E. Hinkel, Jr. has been elected Chair-Elect of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of the Kentucky Bar Association. Mr. Hinkel's term as Chair will begin at the conclusion of the section's meeting at next year's KBA Convention.

Tiffany Lauderdale Phillips has been selected as the incoming chair of the Fayette County Bar Association Health Care/Insurance group.

Robert S. Ryan is the President of the Ohio Northern University College of Law Alumni Association. He recently penned an article for that school's Alumni journal, Sidebar, which can be viewed here.

Tiffany Lauderdale Phillips is spotlighted in the March/April 2009 issue of the Fayette County, Kentucky Bar News publication.

Robert S. Ryan is on the board of directors of The Burning Stick Foundation, Inc, which raises and donates monies to many Central Kentucky charities and agencies.

Taft A. McKinstry has been recognized by Corporate Counsel as a Top Lawyer: Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights Law for 2009.

Jana Smoot White organized "An Evening of Bowling for Pediatric Stroke Awareness", held on May 8, 2009 at Southland Bowling Lanes in Lexington. The event raised over $5,000.00  for The Children's Hemiplegia and Stroke Association.

Fowler was one of several local firms and businesses which provided Leadership Lexington youth class members the chance to job shadow for a day to get a small glimpse into a "day in the life" experience of a career.

Barry M. Miller has been selected as an editor of the American Bar Association Tort and Insurance Practice Group's 2009 publication of the CGL Coverage Handbook. Mr. Miller will be editing the Bad Faith chapter of the publication.

John E. Hinkel, Jr. was recognized for his 25 years of service in the Commercial Law League of America.

Robert S. Ryan has become a contributing writer for Business Lexington, authoring monthly articles on various legal topics. John E. Hinkel, Jr. and Tiffany Lauderdale Phillips, both certified mediators, have volunteered to mediate cases during the upcoming Fayette Circuit Court Settlement Week in September, 2009. During Settlement Week parties have the chance to obtain free mediation services in order to try to resolve their legal disputes by agreement.

Casey Stansbury recently spoke to the Greater Lexington Paralegal Association about the effective use of paralegals in a defense litigation practice.

Jerred Roth presented a program on collections practices to Independent/Small Business Owners (ISBO) in Lexington on April 13, 2009.

John E. Hinkel, Jr. and Jerred Roth presented a seminar on collections law to the Jessamine County Chamber of Commerce on March 26, 2009.

Barry M. Miller gave an electronic discovery presentation in conjunction with Systems Design Group and Symantec on March 25, 2009. Included were focused presentations related to in-house counsel, intellectual property, information technology, human resources and banking.

Barry M. Miller presented a program on Electronic Discovery to the Greater Lexington Paralegal Association on February 17, 2009. Mr. Miller discussed how paralegals can assist attorneys with e-discovery issues.

Matthew D. Ellison presented at the "Employment Law Update in Kentucky" seminar on January 20 in Lexington. Mr. Ellison discussed developments in Kentucky Employment law and protecting at-will employment.

John E. Hinkel, Jr. was a presenter at the "Judgment Enforcement in Kentucky" seminar on October 24 in Lexington. Mr. Hinkel discussed credit extension policies.

Tiffany Lauderdale Phillips recently spoke to the Greater Lexington Paralegal Association about the expanding practice area of nursing home litigation.

Ashley A. Ryan attended the Commercial Law League's Annual Meeting in Chicago April 16-19, 2009.

Jana Smoot White, Jerred Roth and Tiffany Lauderdale Phillips attended the seminar titled "Practice Pointers From the Bench" on February 18, 2009. The seminar was presented by the John Rowe Chapter of the National Bar Association and the speakers included Justice Mary C. Noble of the Kentucky Supreme Court, Judge Denise G. Clayton of the Kentucky Court of Appeals and Judge Pamela R. Goodwine of the Fayette Circuit Court.

Tiffany Lauderdale Phillips received a Kentucky Bar Association 2008 Continuing Legal Education Award for completing a minimum of 62.5 credit hours within 3 or fewer years. This is the third time she has received this award.

Casey C. Stansbury attended the DRI seminar titled "Civil Rights and Governmental Tort Liability" January 28-30 in New Orleans, Louisiana. This seminar addressed many topics including: e-discovery for governmental attorneys, media relations, first amendment claims and trial tactics.

Jerred P. Roth and Ashley A. Ryan attended the CLLA Eastern Region Annual Conference November 13-16 in New York City. Mr. Roth and Ms. Ryan attended presentations on different aspects of representing commercial creditors in litigation and bankruptcy.

Paralegals Mary Hackworth, Brittney Wilson, Terri Marksbury, Heather Davis and Tammy Penn attended the 2008 Kentucky Paralegal Conference on Friday November 7 in Louisville. This annual conference included presentations on Paralegal ethics, alternative dispute resolution and medical malpractice defense.
